If you are renting portable toilets for your work site or event, you will need to rent handwashing or hand sanitizer stations as well. Cleaning one’s hands after using the restroom is essential for preventing the spread of disease, so it’s important to make sure your employees or guests have access to the necessary facilities to do so.

Handwashing vs. Hand Sanitizer Stations

Our team at A&B Portable Toilets, Inc., has extensive experience in supplying portable toilets for a wide variety of purposes. Today, we’d like to go over some of the differences between our handwashing and hand sanitizer stations to help you choose the right solution for your needs.

  • Hand Washing Stations – Portable hand washing stations typically consist of a sink, soap dispenser, paper towel dispenser, and water tanks. Most portable sinks get clean water through a gravity feed line, and then hold the soapy water in a second tank to prevent contamination. In general, the CDC recommends hand washing with soap and water over hand sanitizer, as this method of hand washing both kills the germs and removes them from your skin. However, hand washing stations tend to create more waste and mess than hand sanitizer stations, which might affect your decision.
  • Hand Sanitizer Stations – Hand sanitizer stations are often simpler than hand washing stations, which makes them easier to set up and maintain. In many cases, hand sanitizer stations consist of a dispenser on the wall of the portable toilet, so they require much less space than full hand washing stations. Compared to hand washing stations, hand sanitizer stations also create less waste to manage. You won’t have to worry about sourcing clean water, storing soapy water, or cleaning up paper towels. Hand sanitizer is also a proven effective way to kill germs on the skin, which means it will do its job to prevent disease from spreading through your event or work site. However, hand sanitizer is not an effective way to remove dirt particles, stains, or other substances such as paint from the hands, so if that’s a concern, hand washing stations are the way to go.
